Country dancing at Garton End School in the late 1960's.
Dogsthorpe Schools in 1960s
Glynn's memories of his school days in Dogsthorpe sparked a few memories. I went to Dogsthorpe Infant and Junior schools from 1966 - 1972. Mr Nichols mentioned by Glyn was still there, he was my form teacher in the last year of junior school.
The school was still having problems with space, but by the time I went there they had abandoned the 1851 school in Welland Road. The first year juniors were accomodated on a separate site in Garton End Rd, which happened to be at the bottom of my garden, we had a gate through into the field, but woe betide you if you were caught playing there out of school hours by Mrs Harradine the caretaker.
I remember Mr Leishman the new head teacher arriving, I beleive his predessesor was Mr Stephens or Stephenson? He brought in new ideas like modern maths and no longer learning times tables, all of which was all very well until I went to a senior school which expected us to have been taught the traditional way.
If you can add anything to my memories do get in touch.

Tracy Goude says: I remember that the boys used to have to choose a girl partner for country dancing and I was always last to be picked! does anyone remember the may pole from the infants school? Again I never used to get picked to dance, although I did get chosen to be one of the ones that sat in the middle to weight the pole down I was fascinated by the patterns the ribbon made when they were intertwined.
