Medieval Garton End
The Comet
William Bone

Garton End looked very different in 1904 you can just recognise the distinctive semi detached houses behind the trees, which are still on the double bend.

In this picture in 1912 you can see the terrace which is now next to Newark Avenue.

Alot of the development of Garton End took place in the 1930's. The houses which a few years later would take the place of the 3 boys and the fence, were built by a Mr Setchfield who during the 1960's and 70's lived in a bungalow opposite the Comet, the front window of which can be seen in the modern picture on this page. The houses he built are the semis in the distance.

Mr William Bone was another long time resident of Garton End, he lived in the bungalow next door to the Comet, but I think he had lived in Garton End prior to moving there. I have seen a photo of Mr Bone and a horse at Garton End pond, which was on the double bend and filled in so that the 1930s houses could be built.
