Many thanks to Gordon Tyler who sent me these articles about the Centenary of the Wesleyan Chapel, which were published in the 2 local papers (the Peterborough Standard, and the Citizen) in 1933. The articles not only give the history of Methodism in Dogsthorpe, but include a large amount of information about the local people over the previous 100 years, and give an excellent image of Dogsthorpe as it was in 1933.

It was 23 years later that the new much larger Chapel opened in Birchtree/Central Ave, and ten years later the new church was built on the same site, with the original chapel used as a church hall. My mother remembers having dinner parties to raise funds for the new church, where the host paid for the food and did the work and the visitors paid to attend, and the money went towards the building fund.
This picture of the original chapel on St Pauls Road, also kindly sent to me by Gordon Tyler, was taken about 20 years ago. The left hand side of the picture looks much as it does today, however the absence of buildings on the right gives away the date of the photo.
Here is a picture of the Primitive Methodist Chapel in Garton End built in 1866 and demolished in the late 1930's so that Newark Avenue could be widened.

The photos below show a group of the congregation from about 1967 and some images of it's construction.
