It has 14 rooms.

This was to celebrate the coronation of Edward VII, which took place on 9 August 1902.

Comparing the 1901 and 1950 maps Marylands seems to have become Southlands in the intervening years. As Henry Wadlow took the name Marylands to his new home in the 1920s, perhaps this prompted the change.

From the probate notice of Alderman Frederick William Griffin: Griffin Frederick William of Southlands, Dogsthorpe died 26 September 1931 Probate Peterborough 4 June to Annie Laura Griffin widow William Speed Smith farmer Isaac Witsed solicitor and Tom Berry farmer. Effects  £84864 2s 1d. From a Stamford Mercury cutting we learn he was a well known agriculturalist.

F W Griffin was living at Borough Fen in 1911 having been born there 50 years earlier. He had been married for 25 years and had 2 chidren, one of whom had died. His daughter Mary Louise was 24 and living with her parents. This family of 3 had 6 servants living with them, 4 domestic and 2 farmers assistants.

This notice from the Stamford Mercury 2nd October 1931 is difficult to make out in places, but tells us that Mr Griffin was a wealthy man who had many positions in the community.

It also tells us he moved to Southlands in about 1927 and bought the house from Mr A E Baxter. It also confirms my suspicion that Southlands and Marylands are the same place by referring to Mr Wadlow having lived there.

Southlands was demolished relatively recently in the 1990s, and has been replaced by a modern mansion.
