These fascinating cuttings came from Peterborough Images Facebook Page. The house on the left is 1 Welland Rd which survived the fire. Below shows what happened to the rest of the row. The site is now the Tesco Express and Garage.
Lynne Dawkins kindly added the following information: Pictures of during, before and after a fire, which destroyed all but one of them.
To the right hand side of The Bluebell Pub, in Dogsthorpe, there is a small thatched cottage. However, there used to be a row of them, which would have spread over what is now Tesco garage. My G Aunt's family, the Parkers, lived in one. In the late 1800s, they owned the Dogsthorpe brick pit, on Welland Road, and the land around it. One night, in March 1935, the thatch caught fire and the cottages were destroyed. My Mum, who lived nearby in Shakespeare Avenue at the time and was nearly 6 years old, can remember her Dad going out to help fight the fire. After their cottage was destroyed, the Parkers built a bungalow, further up Welland Road, on land that had belonged to the brick pit."
