Paul Jinks posted that his Great Grandfather Edward Jinks had lived in Dogsthorpe in 1911, address unknown.

I soon found Edward living in Garton Street, off Garton End Road.

Edward was 41 and had been married to Sarah Ann 35 for 15 years, they had 8 children one of whom had died. Edward was born in Dogsthorpe, Sarah in March, Cambs. His occupation was a general farm labourer.

Living with them in 5 rooms were:

  • John Thomas Edward 14 born Dogsthorpe
  • Edith May Esther 12 born Dogsthorpe
  • Herbert 11 born Dogsthorpe
  • Arthur 9 born Dogsthorpe
  • Ralph 7 born Dogsthorpe
  • Harriet Ellen 5 born Dogsthorpe
  • Edward 1 born Garton End

This suggests they had moved to Garton End in the last 4 years.

In the 1901 Census Edward and Sarah are living in Dogsthorpe with their 3 eldest children.

In 1891 Edward Jinks is 21 and a servant working in Newborough, at a farm in Bridge Hill Road, for the Harris family.

In 1881 Edward is 12 and a scholar living with his family at 2 Park Terrace Dogsthorpe

  • John Jinks, 34  an agricultural labourer, born in Dogsthorpe,
  • Elizabeth 38 born in Peterborough.
  • Susanah Cliffe 18 step daughter born in Dogsthorpe
  • Isaac Cliffe 15 step daughter born in Dogsthorpe
  • Edward 12 born in Dogsthorpe.
  • Annie 9
  • Charles 6
  • John 4
  • Thomas 1

Obviously Elizabeth had been married before to a Mr Cliffe.

In 1871 Census Edward is just a year old and living in Dogsthorpe with his parents and siblings:

  • John Jinks, 25  an agricultural labourer also born in Dogsthorpe,
  • Elizabeth born in Peterborough.
  • Susanah 7 born in Dogsthorpe
  • Isaac 5 born in Dogsthorpe
  • Edward 1 born in Dogsthorpe.

Going back a generation to John Jinks born 1846 in Dogsthorpe.

In 1861 John was 15 and a Brickmaker. Living with his family in Dogsthorpe:

  • William Jinks Head 58 Labourer born Dogsthorpe
  • Ann wife 58 born Fenstanton Cambridgeshire
  • Thomas 17 Farm Labourer
  • John 15 Brickmaker
  • Edward 11 Farm Labourer

All the sons were born in Dogsthorpe.

In 1851 the family was the same and living in Dogsthorpe.

In 1841 William Jinks is listed as 30, Ag Lab, the family consists of just him and Ann Jinks who is only 3 months old.

The Jinks family goes back to at least 1803 in Dogsthorpe.
